Great news! The NEWLY CREATED Mother Goose on the Loose app will be available in iTunes tomorrow…. If anyone would like an early look, let me know and we can send you a promo code. The app will be available FOR FREE. Librarians are meant to use it in programs to model appropriate ways parents can use new media with their children, and then to encourage parents to download the free app as well.

Please spread the word so we get lots of downloads at launch 🙂 Any favorable reviews would also be greatly appreciated!

Internet Librarian Conference

I just returned from presenting with Cen Campbell at the Internet Librarians Conference in lovely Monterey, California on “Mobile Media, Early Literacy, and Digital Storytelling.” It is exciting to see how librarians are dealing with the proliferation of new forms of media. I am always learning new things from my colleagues and the venue was just spectacular.

Look below if you’d like to see the PowerPoint presentation. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Hot off the press: “Media Diet” for Children

Share

The American Academy of Pediatrics just update their recommendations regarding media use by young children. Their just-released guidelines go right along with MGOL Technology Policy and fit right in with the new “Goose 2.0” training workshop.  For example, here is their recommendation to parents:

For Parents:

  • Parents can model effective “media diets” to help their children learn to be selective and healthy in what they consume. Take an active role in children’s media education by co-viewing programs with them and discussing values.
  • Make a media use plan, including mealtime and bedtime curfews for media devices. Screens should be kept out of kids’ bedrooms.
  • Limit entertainment screen time to less than one or two hours per day; in children under 2, discourage screen media exposure.
